Ella Langley’s “Choosin’ Texas” has made Billboard Hot 100 history, becoming the longest-running No. 1 song in the chart’s history with its 23rd week at the top. The country hit surpassed Mariah Carey’s “All I Want for Christmas Is You,” which previously held the record with 22 weeks at No. 1. Shaboozey’s “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” and Lil Nas X’s “Old Town Road,” featuring Billy Ray Cyrus, tied at 19 weeks as the next-longest-running No. 1 hits.
Released in October 2025 as the lead single from Langley’s album “Dandelion,” “Choosin’ Texas” debuted on the Hot 100 in November, reached the top 10 in January and first climbed to No. 1 in February. It later returned to the summit and has remained there since July. The song’s latest performance was driven by 21.8 million official U.S. streams, 58.3 million radio audience impressions and 6,000 sales during the Sept. 11-17 tracking period, according to Billboard. It also extended its run at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart to 23 weeks and moved to a career-best No. 2 on Radio Songs.
Langley took to Instagram to celebrate making Billboard Hot 100 history, sharing in a video message (as her dog barked in the background): “I’m genuinely trying to find the words to explain what’s going on in my brain today. What? I don’t know. Thank you so much. Thank you for loving this song, for listening to it. I feel like… I just don’t even know what to say at this point. I’m running out of hyperboles to describe how I feel, so I will just let my dog in the background show you his excitement … Just thank you. Thank you so much. It’s changing my life. It’s changing the lives of the writers of this song. It’s changing the lives of my family and it is truly growing an atmosphere for something I’m gonna be able to do the rest of my life and I just… today doesn’t feel like a real thing. It feels fake and somebody’s going to come in and be like ‘haha we’re kidding the whole time just kidding.’ I’m really excited to just experience a moment like this in my life.”
Written by Langley, Miranda Lambert, Luke Dick and Joybeth Taylor, “Choosin’ Texas” has become a crossover success while maintaining its country foundation. The song also was named Billboard’s 2026 ‘Song of the Summer,’ while Langley’s “Be Her” finished third on the seasonal chart.
